Solid Text, Easy to get lost in its 1900 pages (which is good and bad)

This is a solid text with in-depth coverage of many topics. My main complaints would be that it has too much on introductory or abstract considerations before getting to concrete details of different countries (but you could always skip most of the first 500 pages). It is nicely updated and has a detailed section on social welfare policy at the end, so if you want that, you probably won't find it in similar texts.
However, the overall length (more than 1900 pages) makes it painful to carry around and doubtless adds to the book's cost (for some reason it is almost as expensive to rent as to buy on Amazon, as I write this review).
