Sometimes We Need It

Would you be offended by this book's, title? Mark Atteberry gives us a top 10 list that is meant to check our attitudes at the door.

Dumb Things Christians do:

#1 - Slinging Mud on the Bride of Christ.
#2 - Winning People to the Church Rather than to the Lord.
#3 - Living Below the Level of Our Beliefs.
#4 - Speaking Above the Level of Our Knowledge.
#5 - Hopping from Church to Church.
#6 - Fighting Among Ourselves.
#7 - Missing Golden Opportunities.
#8 - Settling for Mediocrity.
#9 - Allowing Wolves to Live Among the Sheep.
#10 - Accepting the Unacceptable.

Some of the "dumb things" may seem a bit harsh, but Atteberry fleshes them out in a way that causes you to look inward instead of playing the blame game. And I think we have become very efficient at blaming others.

Yup it's Official, We're Dumb!

Mark really nabbed "us" on this one. Christians do some pretty ridiculous stuff that we wouldn't even attempt while in secular society. The church hopping chapter oughta really have some squirm. I'm beginning to really like Marks brand of Christianity its starting to stick out like he's been eating "locusts and honey" for lunch! Get this one but be warned; It'll make you wonder where, why & how your sphere of influence was lost. I'll be the first to say I've committed at least 3 of this books 10 dumb things. Thanks for the "wake up" call. "At a Boy" Atteberry.

As an Associate Pastor involved in Urban and Rural ministries both, I can say Atterberry is spot on with this challenging work.

Though the title is less than a shining example of positivity, sometimes this is healthy. Just read Jeremiah--or any entire book of the Bible, actually.

Atterberry speaks from years of experience and his insights are heard-earned. Despite the title, the book is not written from a frustrated or down-trodden place, but rather one of gentle warning and caring concern. It is not overly bombastic in an effort to be pithy or memorable; it is simply honest. Well written and well conceived.

Good Heat Pump Information--from a homeowner/heat pump owner

This technical instruction book deals specifically with heat pumps, NOT all HVAC systems. I do not own an air conditioning company with young technicians to teach: My husband and I own a 100-year-old-plus home, pier and beam, with 12 foot high ceilings. We have a very troublesome heat pump system still under warranty.....and I'd personally like to talk intelligently to the air conditioning company owner and his technicians who installed the system. Very simply--I jumped on the opportunity to read this manual!

I got a lot of information from reading this manual. The writing is thorough, concise and not confusing. It was written in "plain english" and it wasn't boring--okay, so it wasn't a page turner, but what manual is? Anyone applying him/herself to the material can succeed in mastering the information. To my mind, that is because the author did a good job teaching through his writing.

What I really appreciated? The diagrams were clear and easy to understand--and there were plenty of them. Also, the author provides the student with little stories containing hints on how to communicate with the less-than-knowlegable homeowner, the eager-to-learn homeowner, the questioning homeowner. There is a good amount of troubleshooting and how to deal with different situations.

If the rest of the series contains this quality of information, every air conditioning company in the country should own at least two sets! At least their customers would be happier!

informative and clear to understand

This book is laid out well, instructions are clear and content is easy to understand. This is a great reference guide for any HVAC technician. The pages are sturdy and the cover is laminated - so the book hasn't ripped or fallen apart, even when it's been thrown in the back of the truck to keep on hand as a reference if needed.

practical concise understanding

The operating principles and general schematics of key common types of heating and cooling units are explained. With an emphasis on equipment that is installed for office or factory, rather than for the home. There are different types of heat pumps, and you get a concise education in these. Typically, both the mechanics and any electric controller subsystems are covered. What is only lightly touched upon is the underlying thermodynamic principles of the pumps. For that you will need a text more geared towards an engineering readership.

Crucially, there are chapters on how to install and troubleshoot. Of course, the specific details should ultimately depend on the manufacturer's instruction manuals and you should refer to these. But a virtue of the text is how it explains common features or tasks likely to be encountered, regardless of the actual model type.

The book has many drawings and photographs that greatly aid understanding of the text. The drawings focus on the key features of a pump and together with the narrative let you quickly grasp the essence of operation.

Great training aid

I recently received this book as a gift.

My dog and I began formal agility training about 3 years ago, have been running at trials about 1-1/2 years. I had some specific problems at trials - my dog did not work away from me, I had difficulty with tight turns; he consistently knocked the first jump bar; I didn't trust my dog. For example, at class I would use a rear cross and even a blind cross but at a trial I would revert to a front cross.

I read several chapters in the book: working away, tight turns, discrimination of obstacles, motivation problems and a few others. We practiced the exercises in the yard and at class. In the past four weekends we had 8 trials. My dog moved up from Open Standard to Excellent Standard, we finished Novice Fast and have two Q's in Open Fast. We moved up from Novice Jumpers to Open Jumpers and have two Q's.

The book helped us resolve some problems resulting in more consistently successful runs. The lessons in the book are valuable to those running Excellent level runs as well as Novice and Open. I found the book to be a great addition to formal agility training.

Very easy to follow, nicely explained, love the methods used, etc. This book is up-to-date (as of 2013), and is a great compliment to training classes. It will help you better understand why you do what you do, how to handle better, and how to train your dog what you want w/o using compulsion.

I have a small Tax Prep/Tax Resolution firm. As my business has been growing, it has become more clear that my systems are not in place as they should be. This book is definitely worth the money. It gives a great outline of how a tax resolution service can be run very efficiently. Using the checklists provided, I am mapping out my entire work flow. I am tweaking the lists slightly to fit, but they are a great starting point. I am mainly working on the actual work processes now, but look forward to being able to get back to the marketing checklists. I feel once implemented, I should be able to increase workload significantly and still offer 5-star service to my clients. I will also create similar checklist to help with on-boarding new Tax Prep Clients!! Thanks Jassen for this brain dump of knowledge.

She eventually launched a lawsuit against the Alberta government and won an important judgement that led to compensation being paid to hundreds of other victims. After the trial, she became a public figure and continues to speak against all forms of child abuse and discrimination against the disabled. This is Leilani Muir's story in her own words.

Impressive

This book is an impressive document about the life of a woman whose dreams were shattered by Alberta's infamous eugenics laws and its executioners. This book should be required reading for every (behavior) geneticist.

A phenomenal book on the quest for the Self

Aziz Kristof is now Anadi. He came out of self imposed seclusion last year. Anadi lives in Almora, in the north of India and holds spiritual retreats, all over the world, the latest of which is in Israel.

Before going into seclusion, He had authored two books - The Human Buddha and Transmission of Awakening, and co-authored another book Enlightenment Beyond Traditions with his soul brother Houman Emani.

Simply put The Human Buddha is the most advanced book on seeking you will ever find. Yes, this book is even more advanced than Nisargadatta Maharaj's I am That, by whom Aziz was profoundly impacted. If you have reached this far, then consider it to be an act of providence. Read this book, and prepare to be transformed. The first half (1/5th of the book) consists of Aziz's guided meditations, in which He talks about absolute meditation, and living in the present. The second half (most of the rest of the book) consists of question/answer sessions in which Aziz answers the questions of His disciples.

At the fag end of the book comes a short, but profoundly inspiring autobiographical account, in which Aziz, talks about His early childhood, His growing up years, how He had to compulsorily serve in the army, His subsequent escape and travels throughout Asia, and His final journey to India. He finally attains enlightenment in Kerala, to the south of India.

Unlike most other masters (many of them genuine) who seek to assemble large groups of disciples around themselves, Aziz has no such ambitions. He wants to keep His work private, and open to only the genuine seeker, not someone who is looking for thrills or a sense of mystery. While this limits His appeal, it also makes Him more open and available to the genuine seeker. My search has ended after reading this book, and I am profoundly grateful to have found Anadi.

A Deep Understanding and Incredible Work

This large book consists of two parts. The first 1/4 to 1/3 is Aziz' guided meditation. There is some insightful material but the real meat of this book is in the remainder which is question and answer which is grouped into chapters of like questions/answers. An amazing book, something like Nisargadatta's "I Am That", that I would return to time and time again.
