Amazing

Michelle Hazen knocked this out of the park and I'm only a third of the way through this amazing rewrite of season four. First, very few Vampire Diaries' writers get the characters the way she clearly has in this novel. I'm pretty much in awe at how well she knows them and writes them perfectly. This reads like a perfect episode of Vampire Diaries and I don't say that lightly. I'm a huge TVD snob, huge.

Second, Desperate Love is written with a perfect blend of humor, action, romance and friendship. I found myself laughing out loud and melting at the romance, sometimes all at once.

Third, Hazen writes with what appears to be a wealth of experience at her fingertips. I know from her author's note she has spent some time traveling the world, but it's one thing to do so and another to write about it. She's a true storyteller, in every sense of the word.

Now, I'm off to read the next installment of this incredible novel.

Amazing Rewrite of S4 is Worth Every Penny!

Trust me, fans of TVD: You want to read this book. I know, I know - by the time you buy all three parts, it's the same price as a regular ol' novel. But three for the price of one! It's a steal because Michelle Hazen rewrites S4 with incredible skill, a real eye for details, and a deep understanding and appreciation of the characters who populate this world.

It's little things: Starting with the cover, note she's wearing plaid flannel sleep-shorts, and not sexy lingerie. Just like Elena. It's a little thing, really. Something someone not paying attention wouldn't notice. But it's perfect. Absolutely perfect. The whole book is like that, filled with tiny details that are so incredibly RIGHT. I find myself nodding a lot and saying, "Yes! That!" to all sorts of things. Like the Hello Kitty diary and Caroline's ability to make a castle out of duct tape and Jeremy reminding Elena that he's the same age now that she was when their parents died.

It's funny and sad and snarky and action-packed and bittersweet and sexy (despite strictly adhering to the PG-13 rating). Hazen has managed to capture absolutely everything I love about the show within these pages. I can close my eyes and see it, all of it happening the way she's written it. I can hear the actors bantering her dead-on dialogue. Her new characters blend perfectly into the supernatural menagerie that is Mystic Falls. Her plot twists and turns along the way feel right and true. Like the best episodes, it's all happening way too fast; I have to remind myself to slow down, to savor, to bask, when really I all want is to gulp this story in big, greedy swallows.

Thank you, Michelle Hazen, for sharing your talents. This is fanfiction at its finest!

What did I do without this?

In a word: Incredible. In many words: OH DEAR LORD WHAT DID I EVER DO BEFORE READING THIS STORY AND I CAN'T GET ENOUGH AND BLESSED BE TO ALL THE GODS THAT PROPELLED THE AUTHOR TO MAKE THIS INTO A TRILOGY BECAUSE I CANNOT STOP READING!

M. Hazen has woven a whole new Season 4 for us, and the only thing that kills me is that I wish with every fiber of my being that I could have seen it play out on my screen with sinfully attractive actors. Everything about her alternate reality is, just as she promises, the way THE FANS would have written it. And it's clear that Hazen did just that.

The characters are so spot-on, so perfect, it makes you wonder at Hazen's real life involvement in the show because there is no way someone from the outside world could grasp voice and motivation as clearly as she does. The characters are complicated, witty, and exactly the embodiment of everything I hope and know them to be.

Her plot is even better. In giving us a new version of Season 4, she eases us into it gently from a few scenes that I, along with many others, constantly rewound and re-watched again and again then BAM! It's a whole new world. She asks different questions of the characters and their response? Shocking. Intriguing. Hair-pulling "WHY, GAWD, WHY?" all while even managing to give us a few new locations that are described with such clarity and detail that I'm reaching for my wallet to buy my plane ticket because it's just so, so good.

An absolutely amazing first part to the trilogy, unable to be put down, and a masterpiece in its own right. Bravo, M. Hazen, you are truly a master of your craft.

Unparalleled!

This book is essential for any animation fan or scholar. It contains cross-referenced information which cannot be found anywhere else. In the week that I have owned it, I have used it at least ten times to find information I need. Now if only I had the budget to buy all of the animated films listed in the book! If you have any interest in animation at all, buy this book and become an expert!

This is the first textbook I've written a review on because I feel like with most textbooks we get out of them what the Professor wants us to, unless you are reading textbooks cover to cover in your free time. This book was easy to navigate and understand. I did not use a supplement to this book and did very well in the class.

This is a high-quality retelling of the New Testament letter written by Paul to Philemon regarding the runaway slave Onesimus who has become a Christian through the teaching of Paul. Joyce breathes life into each character while staying faithful to Paul's letter, with some true-to-life added details, a very fine depiction of first century home-church worship services, and a capture of the spirit of the early church that is probably close to the reality of those times. The writing is effortless, pulls the reader into the story, with a pace that keeps the action and the message going, and that resolves into the brilliant lessons of elevated character that all of the people in this real-life story experienced. For people who liked The Robe and The Big Fisherman, not to mention The Martyr of the Catacombs, this book Slave to Grace will inspire us to push forward in our own journeys of faith.

A good read. Slave to grace is a characterization of the Bible character, Onesimys. It carries the reader into the old Bible times world. The reader watches as Onesimus is carried into slavery and finally finds a path to freedom. Then when he comes in contact with the Apostle Paul he finds salvation. Follow the trail as Onesimus makes a choice. Should he return to his master or should he remain hidden in the big city of Rome.

TIP 144- FLOAT-RIG FROM SHORE

Here’s a basic technique for tying a rig that is a standard for fishing from shore.

STEP 1 Tie a # 8 bait hook on the end of your line.

STEP 2 Slip a bell sinker onto the line and run it up 12 to 20 inches from the hook.

STEP 3 Using a split-shot weight on the line, lock the bell sinker in place from sliding any closer to your hook.

When you cast the rig, the bell sinker goes to the bottom and your hook can float up the length of line between your hook and the split shot.

This technique uses the hook to present your bait up and off of the bottom. This presentation is important because a trout’s eyes are positioned pointing upwards, making it easy for them to target a meal floating in the water column above them or sitting on the surface. Feeding mainly on invertebrates, trout cruise close to the bottom and keep a careful eye out above them for an easy meal.

In order to get your bait off the bottom you can use floating bait or incorporate a hook to lift your bait off the bottom.
Try fishing dew worms, and inflate them with a syringe. The air pumped into the worms make them look like a big meal and provide just enough buoyancy to lift them the length of line between your hook and sinker off the bottom.

Since worms are not always available or can be difficult to keep over several days in the field, you should experiment with the floating varieties of Berkley PowerBait and Gulp. They have several trout formulas available in a floating paste that are deadly. Knowing trout are visual feeders, actively looking for a meal, I like to use bright colours to draw their attention. The Berkley baits are ideal, as they come in chartreuse, orange, pink, yellow and combinations that are highly visible. Putting a small ball of the paste on a bait hook is just enough to float it cleanly off the bottom, providing the perfect presentation with colour, smell, and placement in the water column.

I expected a bit more from a book called "TOTAL FISHING MANUAL"

It covers alot of areas of fishing, but after reading the book I don't feel as if I've learned anything new. I wish there was more to do on rigging and when to use a lure where or tips on selecting color or pairing poles with line and lures or expand on the effects of seasons on fish. Some good things were touched on but nothing is done with any depth. It's laid out like a bunch of fisherman wrote a sentence long tip on a sticky note and gathered all the sticky notes and created a book. I don't care to know how I can make a lure out of a copper pipe but I do care about best practices when fishing for small mouth bass post spawn. I do care about all the different ways to use a plastic worm or various techniques, I don't care much about cutting a lure in half to insert a rattle. It seems to me they could've done much better with this book.

All that being said, I still did enjoy the book which is why it is deserving of 3 stars at the very least. I do think you will enjoy flipping through the pictures and diagrams, just don't expect to learn anything in great detail.

Great Book

When it comes to fishing, anglers typically want to get the information they need quickly -- knot tying or the common rig for bottom fishing bluegill. This book does provide the information you need quickly without the filler found in many other books of its kind. Covers a lot of areas and educates you as you read. Good investment of your time and money.

This book explained in clear terms and pictures rigging and techniques that are useful and practical to the everyday fisherman. Have fished for trout but was not as familiar with bass and pan fish. Found this text very helpful. The illustrations are great and plan on keeping it around for my kids and grandkids.

The chapters on where to fish and how to read structure are very helpful. The chapters on different fish and what lures they bite are also very helpful. Using the information on how to read the water and what lure to use, I selected a fishing spot and landed a bass within 5 minutes.

This book would make a great addition to others you may have. This book lives up to the book description and delivers an entertaining read that is refreshingly new. I highly recommend it to all who are interested in fishing.

Good Tips, Missing What I Was Looking/Hoping For....

Nice book, quality pages and cover. Nice pictures and descriptions. Good tips, learned quite a bit. However, I was hoping for more saltwater flats tips/hints, but the focus of the book appears to be on freshwater fishing and fly fishing. There is info on saltwater in the book, but I'd say it's 60-30-10 in terms of content. 60% is all fishing applicable, 30% is freshwater applicable, and 10% is saltwater. Only two saltwater fish it specifically addresses is Red Drum and Striped Bass. I'd buy as a gift for someone that spends most of their time in freshwater and/or fly fishes. Not super helpful for a salty.

Kit's Suprise Review

I thought Kit's Surprise was a much stronger book than either of the first two in the series. It really developed the characters more, including Kit and her best friend, Ruthie. It also had a legitimate problem and a good solution, as well as a nice Christmasy ending. I liked it a lot.

Not bad for younger readers.

I read this book only because of that fact that when I was young, I absolutley loved the American Girls more than anything else in the world. And I'm glad I did, because they got me interested in history. Reading books like these will encourage young girls to move onto more challenging and realistic historical fiction as they grow older, such as the Dear America series. This book "introduces" the newest American Girl, nine-year-old Kit Kitteradge (who thought up that name, anyway?), who lives with her family in Cincinatti during the Depression. (Again, problem: the cover says the setting is 1934, the historical note says 1932. Not that little girls are going to notice.) Kit and her family are affected by the Great Depression, but her concerns are petty next to the larger problems facing most citizens of the country. Her dad loses his business. Her mom opens a boardinghouse. Kit has to give up her room to paying borders and live in the attic. Not so harsh when there were kids not much older than her living off their own wits. Kit wasn't exactly the most well-developed character, either - she's just defined as liking and disliking various things, and often acts selfish and spoiled, before suddenly realizing her mistakes. Still, I give the book five stars because it is sure the entertain the audience it is intended for.

Meet Kit: An American Girl

Tripp wrote a lovely story depicting a nine-year-old girl, Kit, going through the Depression in Cincinnati. She and her family face a very difficult situation when her father, a man she deeply admires, loses his job.
This book conveys an important message to other young girls who do not understand what the Depression was all about, or the impact it had on so many people. Kit is your typical nine-year-old and she comes from a typical middle-class family in Cincinnati. This allows young girl readers to identify with this fun-loving character. Tripp's use of description helps paint a picture for the reader. For example, when Tripp describes Kit's mother she writes, "Mother looked as cool and slender as a mint leaf in her pale green dress."
This is an excellent book to read, especially for 8 - 12 year olds. Girls will definitely enjoy it more than boys since Kit, the main character, is a girl; however, she enjoys baseball and not the frilly things, so boys may enjoy this too.
Meet Kit will help reluctant readers want to read due to its easy languague. Then the reader can pick up the next book to learn even more about Kit.
